description The Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) provides a principled framework for the interpretation of physical phenomena beyond the Standard Model. I will briefly outline the methodology that is used within ATLAS for the extraction of exclusion limits on the Wilson coefficients of operators of mass-dimension six. I will then show results obtained from recent Higgs boson measurements: a combined analysis of the $H\rightarrow 4\ell$, $H\rightarrow \gamma\gamma$ and $VH,\,H\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ processes, as well as a combination of the $H\rightarrow WW^*\rightarrow e\nu\mu\nu$ decay with on-shell $WW$ production, $pp\rightarrow WW\rightarrow e\nu\mu\nu$.
