Measuring $K_s ^0$ and $\Lambda$ abundances in QCD Instanton induced processes.

description In this project we studied the abundances of strange $K_s ^0$ and $\Lambda$ particles in MC-Instanton and MC-EPOS samples. By comparing our results to ATLAS data, we assessed the suitability of these observables in the experimental detection of QCD Instanton induced processes at the LHC. We proceeded by selecting appropriate filters on tracks and V0 vertices that maximise the significance of the $K_s ^0$ and $\Lambda$ peaks, as well as reducing the false-positive rate and increasing the efficiency of detection. Having shown that both hadrons can be reconstructed with similar efficiencies in Instanton and EPOS samples, we studied their relative abundances in intervals of constant track number. Our analysis showed no measurable difference of $K_s ^0$ and $\Lambda$ production in QCD Instanton induced processes.
