Recent precision W/Z measurements at the LHC (all relevant DY measurements), including full Run 2 and HL-LHC prospects

Precision measurements of W and Z boson cross sections and other properties are a powerful tool to validate theoretical calculations of the standard model, and are also essential in searches for new physics phenomena. description Precision measurements of W and Z boson cross sections and other properties are a powerful tool to validate theoretical calculations of the standard model, and are also essential in searches for new physics phenomena. These bosons are copiously produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, which permits several measurements to be performed differentially in many kinematic variables, often with negligible statistical uncertainties. Decays into electrons or muons are particularly convenient, as they provide a clean experimental signature that allows heavy suppression of the backgrounds arising from the hadronic activity following the collisions. In this paper, some selected precision measurements recently carried out at the LHC are reviewed. Prospects and implications for future measurements at the high-luminosity LHC are also discussed.
