Measurements of b jet shapes in PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}= 5.02$ TeV

We present the first study of b jet shapes, defined as the normalized transverse momentum distribution of charged hadrons as a function of angular distance from the jet axis $\Delta r$, in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of $5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$. The PbPb data sample used in...

description We present the first study of b jet shapes, defined as the normalized transverse momentum distribution of charged hadrons as a function of angular distance from the jet axis $\Delta r$, in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of $5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$. The PbPb data sample used in this study was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $1.7~\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. The results show that the energy around b jets is redistributed towards larger angles in PbPb collisions as compared to pp collisions. The additional transverse momentum found around b jets at large $\Delta r$ exceeds substantially the additional momentum seen around inclusive jets in PbPb compared to the inclusive reference obtained from pp data.
