Sumario:The Phase 1 upgrade of the CMS Hadron Calorimeter detector (HCAL) involved installing silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) to measure the scintillator light output with better signal/noise and upgrading the read-out electronics, allowing for increased longitudinal segmentation and better performance. This talk will summarize the design, testing, installation, and commissioning of the HCAL Phase 1 upgrade. Performance results for the HCAL endcap and forward detectors using Run 2 data will be presented, together with prospects for Run 3.
