description This report was written as a presentation of the work I did at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) during my placement as a summer intern. The main project I was involved in was the CARA model optimization project. In this project, I was tasked with running analytical improvement tests on the CARA tool using Python scripts and data from a similar model (another aerosol viral infectivity model). During the second half of my internship period, I worked on a project that required the calibration of a camera on a raspberry Pi using Python and MATLAB software to allow for photos to be taken of cracks and leaks in CERN caverns for regular (extended) periods. I also contributed to the inspection robot project – a collaborative project with CMS experiment that involved building and programming a robot to navigate and inspect CMS caverns. My contribution to this project entailed connecting a raspberry Pi on the robot remotely to a CERN computer over a Wi-Fi signal and creating a static IP address for the raspberry Pi to enable stable. These additions would allow the robot to be controlled remotely during operation in the caverns. Although not featured on this report, I also worked on a literature review for deductive analytical methods for the conduction of block impact simulations for optimization of the current model of the CERN Seismic project on stacked shielding blocks.
