description | Some members of the HL-LHC Project Office visited the Q1-TAXS region mock-up which is installed in the dedicated BE-EA workshop (bldg. 867/R-K75) for HL-LHC machine experiment interface studies and tests. In the framework of HL-LHC WP8 mandate (machine experiment interface) the work of TAXS prototyping, integration and installation studies are supported by a Q1-TAXS region mock-up built by the WP8 team in the BE-EA workshop in building 867. The mock-up represents the last three meters of the tunnel environment left and right of ATLAS and CMS caverns. The TAS (Target Absorber Secondary) and future TAXS absorber is inserted in the experiments forward shielding and protects the nearby superconducting magnets from the radiation coming out from the interaction region. The Q1-TAS region is a highly radioactive area with very limited accessibility. For HL-LHC both radioactivity and space limitation will be such that this region has to be designed as maintenance free area. The Q1-TAXS region mock-up will support experts of diverse fields in prototyping their systems. |
