description The student will improve their fundamental skills in programming, gaining an appreciation of the sort routines used in nuclear physics experiments and the different stages of data reduction involved. They will have a well- defined computing project with an outcome that will benefit the ISS collaboration for years to come. They will also gain hands-on experience of a working nuclear physics experiment. They will have the opportunity to install and setup the detectors in ISS. They will get experience in the operation and responses of different types of charged-particle detector such as silicon semiconductors and gas-filled ionization detectors. There are a number of approved experiments that may run at ISS during the period of this placement where the students project could be put to use.
