Measurements on a 12.5/17.5 kV Inductive Adder with Extremely High Stability for the Damping Ring Kickers of the Compact Linear Collider at CERN

The specifications for the kicker systems for the Compact Linear Collider call for 900 ns duration pulses of ±12.5/±17.5 kV, of up to 433 A, with combined ripple and droop of not more than ±0.02% at 12.5 kV. Measured pulse waveforms of 12.5/17.5 kV prototypes have demonstrated ±0.02%/±0.2% relative...

Sumario:The specifications for the kicker systems for the Compact Linear Collider call for 900 ns duration pulses of ±12.5/±17.5 kV, of up to 433 A, with combined ripple and droop of not more than ±0.02% at 12.5 kV. Measured pulse waveforms of 12.5/17.5 kV prototypes have demonstrated ±0.02%/±0.2% relative waveform stability, respectively. In addition, measurements show that it is feasible to operate the inductive adder in two modes, at 12.5 kV for normal operation and 17.5 kV for dumping the beam: this inductive adder can still achieve the stringent stability specification of ±0.02% at 12.5 kV.
