Feasibility study and \eta' measurement in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions for \eta' \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-\eta at \sqrt{s} = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector

Sumario:In this summer student project it was studied if it would be feasible to measure \eta' particles in pp and pPb collisions with a center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 5.02 TeV. To do so at first a MC simulation of a pp collision with Pythia8 is done and the number of reconstructable \eta' \rightarrow \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\eta and \eta \rightarrow \gamma\gamma decays are counted. Afterwards the analysis is performed on run2 data in pp and pPb collisions to extract signal and background candidates. This will be the first time that \eta are measured in that decay channel for the center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 5.02TeV in ALICE.
