Sumario: | Resonant slow extraction is used at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) for the extraction of a beam of particles by exciting a 1/3rd integer resonance. A stable flux of particles is necessary for the correct functioning of the particles’ detection process. However, the variations in power converter currents introduce ripples which are responsible for the harmonics present on the extracted beam profile and potentially introduce discontinuities in the flux. In this project, we will model how perturbations in the machine parameters affect the spill of particles, as a function of time, while keeping the computational cost minimal. |
