description | The CERN high voltage electrical network is a complex transmission and distribution system. Transmis-sion is done at 400 kV and 66 kV whereas the distribution is done at 3.3 kV and 18 kV. The CERN high voltage network comprises of over 100 substations with 1400 electrical feeders, 400 power transformers of installed power around 2’000 MVA, 16 diesel generators and hundreds of high voltage cables. Such an extensive power system requires detailed numerical modelling for the general operation of the network and to manage its evolution. This paper describes the tools used to optimize the power flows, to guarantee the secured operation, and to define the network operational limits under nominal and degraded scenarios by means of several examples. Furthermore, the increase of the energy demand for new facilities like HL-LHC, HostLAB2 or Prévessin Computer Centre often pushes the power system to its limits, requiring net-work analysis to determine future upgrades.
