Sumario:The TCC2 area is a strategic facility which provides beam particles to the experiments located in the North-Area premises. The bridge crane serving this area is used to carry out all the handling operations of very sensitive accelerator components in an environment where the radiation dose rate is considerable. Having been installed more than 45 years ago, an extensive refurbishment was needed since a crane breakdown, leading to a major disruption on the North-Area activities, had become more and more likely. Object of the paper is to give an overview of the project, focusing on the challenging aspects such as the preparation of a worksite in a controlled radiation area and in the proximity of sensitive components, the coordination be-tween several contractors and CERN units, the limited time allowed to complete the intervention and the narrow space in which some operations needed to be executed.
