EL Activities for Consolidation Purpose

Since the origins of the Organization, the CERN accelerators and experimental facilities constantly evolved. The electrical network followed this evolution, and some of the systems installed at the earlier stages (more than 50 years ago) are still in service. The purpose of EN/EL consolidation program is to bring the aging electrical infrastructure into compliance with the current technical and safety standards. Some representative cases are the refurbishment of PS, PSB and SPS electrical networks performed during LS2 to cope with LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) requirements. The SPS Low Voltage network will be refurbished during LS3 concluding EN/EL consolidation program of the LHC injectors. The consolidation of the East Area during LS2 and the consolidation of the North Area scheduled between LS3 and LS4 represent other significant examples. Moreover, a consolidation program for the renovation of several electrical substations was launched before LS2 and will continue next years to strengthen and improve the reliability of CERN power grid. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the main activities included in the EN/EL consolidation program and to present the most relevant projects already performed or to be performed by the EN/EL group during the next years.
