description The Access Control service (EN-AA-AC) would like to take advantage of the existing mobile-device usage among the general population in order to increase security in the process of granting access to the CERN site. In the process we also aim to reduce costs and improve user satisfaction in terms of physical access control at CERN. We propose to start using a mobile phone as an identifier, initially as a complement of the existing plastic badge and eventually as its replacement. We also see the potential of this mobile tool to provide new functionalities in other domains such as self-services, visitor management, crisis management & evacuation exercises. This paper highlights the advantages of going in this new direction and reports on the work in progress.
