Sumario: | The following plots show historical trends of the CMS detector Full and Fast Simulation CPU time performance of Run-2/13 TeV and Run-3/14 TeV data. Fast Simulation provides a fast and reliable alternative tool to the Geant-based Full Simulation. Over a time range of more than 3 years (CMSSW versions 10\_6\_X to 12\_5\_X) the average CPU run time per event for different processes in relative units of the event generation and simulation is shown for 500 events on single threaded jobs. The standard model processes minimum bias, $t\bar{t}$ and $Z \rightarrow ee$ and the beyond standard model process BSM T1tttt ($\mbox{pp} \rightarrow \mbox{gluino + gluino}$, $\mbox{gluino} \rightarrow t\bar{t} + \mbox{lightest neutralino}$) are illustrated in the figures. The significant faster run time over the time range for Full and Fast Simulation were archived by major improvements in the simulation step. Between CMSSW 12\_3\_X and 12\_4\_X the computing platform operating system has changed from CentOS 7 (SLC7) to Alma Linux 8 (EL8), which as well accelerated the simulation run time. |
