Sumario:A new generation of crystal collimators are installed in the LHC tunnel to provide improved capabilities for ion beam operation for the future High Luminosity (HL-LHC) project. These units complement those already installed in the LHC at Point 7, the interaction point responsible for safely eliminating beam losses from the accelerator. Beams travel inside the LHC at close to the speed of light and cleaning out particles that fly too far from the main path. Over a 100 collimators punctuate the ring at specific locations and make sure that the particles that stray from the beam are cleaned or absorbed to protect delicate accelerator equipment.
