Open Source introduction and legal aspects for developers

<!--HTML--><p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p><p>The lecture will concentrate on what Open source is vs. what people misunderstands it for. At the foundation of Open Source (Free Software) the licensing plays a very relevant role and licensing can only be understood having the general copyright system in the backdrop. The students will receive information-dense introduction to all relevant aspects, including what is the role of licensing, the different types of licenses, other rights that can play a role, how to properly license one's software and what the constraints are, or how to ensure FOSS compliance.</p><p><strong>Short bio:</strong></p><p>Lawyer in Milano (Italy) with 25+ years' experience in IT, Carlo has been involved in top class actions and litigation revolving around free and open source. Has been for more than 10 years General Counsel (external) to the Free Software Foundation Europe. Now he is member of the Board at the Open Source Initiative and a partner of Open Chain. He recently joined the Eclipse Foundation, serving as representative of the Silver members in the Eclipse Oniro Working group and member of the SDV working group.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes;">&nbsp; </span>President of the Board, EuroITcounsel - network of lawyers specialising in IT law.</p>
