Power Converters installed on the HL-LHC IT String metallic platform

This cutting-edge equipment will provide the necessary power for the chain of HL-LHC magnets, which will be subsequently placed in an adjacent area. The development of these converters has undergone extensive enhancements, resulting in improved precision and reliability, essential for the forthcoming High-Luminosity era of the LHC. Among the various converters, the 18 kA power converter stands out as the largest in size. It plays a vital role in supplying power to the RQX circuit, comprising the new quadrupole magnets based on Nb3Sn technology, specifically designed for the HL-LHC project. To establish connections with the cold part of the circuits, the power converters primarily utilize water-cooled cables. These cables necessitate refrigeration to effectively dissipate the heat generated by the high currents flowing out of the converters.
