Sumario:ISOLDE is one of the most longstanding active facilities in CERN. It has been operating successfully for over 50 years, excellent prospect awaits as it enters its second half-century. At ISOLDE, the idea of producing ion beams of radioactive isotopes became reality using the isotope on-line separator (ISOL) technique. Among other parameters, the physical qualities of the ion beams produced strongly depend on the type of ion source used in the ionization process. The resonance ionization laser ion source (RILIS) is chosen for its high efficiency and selectiveness. RILIS uses step-wise atomic excitation by wavelength- tunable laser radiation. A specialized RILIS variant, the laser ion source and trap (LIST), is utilized whenever high purity of an ion beam is essential
