Data Communication Infrastructure available at CERN for Interconnection of Industrial Control Systems

This document is dedicated to the problem of connecting industrial systems to CERN's Accelerators and Technical Services Communication Network. It describes three interfacing alternatives that are supported today with the existing network infrastructure. The objective of this document is to provide a few clear guidelines, for those who have to write a Technical Specification for the purchase of an industrial system, and to propose technical alternatives for the discussions with manufacturers or potential suppliers. This document can also be included in CERN Technical Specifications in order to inform suppliers about the architecture of the existing Accelerators and Services Communication Network. The contractor's responsibility and his technical support must be clearly specified as well as the limit of responsibility and the support which can be expected from the CERN SL Division Controls Group.
