description | The 5 block dipole coil cross-section as described in the "White Book" has been subject to a number of changes which made the design inflexible to accommodate further adjustments if they become necessary at a later stage. In the meanwhile a new optimization algorithm based on genetic optimization algorithms and the concept of niching was implemented in the program package ROXIE that is used for the coil block optimization of the superconducting magnets. Two alternative solutions with 6 clocks were found. The aim of this report is thus to compare the designs in view of flexibility, manufacturability and sensitivity to tolerances. |
