Sumario:This document concerns the award of three contracts, each for the assembly, factory testing and delivery of 30 cold masses of the dipole magnets for the LHC. Following a market survey carried out among sixteen firms and one consortium in eight Member States, a call for tenders (IT-2325/LHC/LHC) was sent on 17 December 1998 to one consortium and four firms in three Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received three tenders from one consortium and two firms. For the reasons outlined in this document, the three bidders were contacted again with a view to change the scope of the call for tenders. Following detailed discussions with all three bidders, a new call for tenders (IT-2708/LHC/LHC) was sent on 3 May 1999 to the consortium and the two firms. By the closing date, CERN had received three tenders from the consortium and the two firms.
