Proposal for the award of a contract for the supply of cryogenic semi-rigid coaxial cables for the LHC beam position monitors

This document concerns the award of a contract for the supply of 4250 cryogenic semi-rigid coaxial cables for the LHC beam position monitors. Following a market survey carried out among 90 firms in nineteen Member States and two firms in the USA and a price enquiry to qualify prototypes sent to one firm in the Member States and two firms in the USA, a call for tenders (IT-2529/SL/LHC) was sent on 13 July 2000 to two firms in the USA. By the closing date, CERN had received two tenders. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of a contract with the firm KAMAN (USA), the lowest bidder, for the supply of 4250 cryogenic semi-rigid cables for the LHC beam position monitors for a total amount of 2 655 750 USD (4 627 549 Swiss francs), not subject to revision, with an option for the supply of up to 10% additional cryogenic semi-rigid cables, for an amount of 265 575 USD (462 757 Swiss francs), not subject to revision, and an option for CERN to choose up to 30 different cable configurations, for an amount of up to 84 475 USD (147 194 Swiss francs), not subject to revision, bringing the total amount to a maximum of 3 005 800 USD (5 237 500 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange which has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firm has indicated the following distribution by country of the contract value covered by this adjudication proposal: USA-100%.
