Proposal for the award of a contract for the supply of austenitic steel end covers for the LHC superconducting dipole magnets

This document concerns the award of a contract for the supply of austenitic steel end covers for the LHC superconducting dipole magnets. Following a market survey carried out among 137 firms in eighteen Member States and five firms in Japan, a call for tenders (IT-2500/LHC/LHC) was sent on 17 November 2000 to 10 firms and four consortia each consisting of two firms, in eight Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received five tenders from four firms and one consortium in four Member States. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of a contract with SANTASALO POWDERMET (FI), the lowest bidder, for the supply of 2482 austenitic steel end covers for a total amount of 8 381 417 euros (12 896 472 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 1 January 2003, with an option for up to 100 additional austenitic steel end covers, for an additional amount of 337 730 euros (519 664 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 1 January 2003, bringing the total amount to 8 719 147 euros (13 416 136 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 1 January 2003. The rate of exchange which has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firm has indicated the following distribution by country of the contract value covered by this adjudication proposal: FI-49%; SE-38%; GB-13%.
