Proposal for the award of a contract for the supply of steel structures for the LHC shafts, tunnels and caverns

This document concerns the award of a contract for the supply of steel structures for the LHC shafts, tunnels and caverns. Following a market survey carried out among 90 firms in eighteen Member States, a call for tenders (IT-2706/EST/LHC) was sent on 30 April 2001 to 21 firms in twelve Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received five tenders from five firms in five Member States. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of a contract with INIZIATIVE INDUSTRIALI (IT), the lowest bidder, for the supply of steel structures for the LHC shafts, tunnels and caverns for a total amount of 4 350 582 euros (6 693 204 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 31 December 2002, with options for 30% additional supplies, for an additional amount of 1 305 175 euros (2 007 962 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 31 December 2002, bringing the total amount to 5 655 757 euros (8 701 166 Swiss francs), not subject to revision until 31 December 2002. The rate of exchange which has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firm has indicated the following distribution by country of the contract value covered by this adjudication proposal: IT - 97%; FR - 3%.
