Proposal for the award of three contracts for the supply of qualifying prototypes for 6 kA and 8 kA, 8 V switch-mode power converters for the LHC

This document concerns the award of three contracts, each for the design, documentation, manufacture, factory testing and delivery of one qualifying prototype one-quadrant switch-mode power converter rated 6 kA, 8 V, using sub-converters rated 2 kA, 8 V. Following a market survey carried out among 81 firms in seventeen Member States, a call for tenders (IT-2866/SL/LHC) was sent on 11 June 2001 to eight firms and two consortia, each consisting of two firms, in eight Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received eight tenders from seven firms and one consortium in eight Member States. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of contracts for the design, documentation, manufacture, factory testing and delivery of one qualifying prototype one-quadrant switch-mode power converter rated 6 kA, 8 V with the following two firms and one consortium: 1) KEMPPI (FI) for a total amount of 196 200 Swiss francs, not subject to revision. 2) JEMA (ES) for a total amount of 183 693 euros (278 745 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange that has been used is that stipulated in the tender. 3) The consortium EEI (IT)/CIRTEM (FR) for a total amount of 205 929 euros (309 761 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange that has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firms have indicated the following distribution by country of the contract values covered by this adjudication proposal: KEMPPI: FI - 52%; DE - 25%; IT - 8%; SE - 4%; CH - 4%; others - 7%. JEMA: ES - 36%; IT - 26%; DE - 15%; NL - 15%; SE - 4%; CH - 4%. EEI/CIRTEM: IT - 72%; FR - 28%.
