Proposal for the award of two contracts for the supply of qualifying prototypes for 13 kA and 20.5 kA, 18 V switch-mode power converters for the LHC

This document concerns the award of two contracts, each for the design, documentation, manufacture, factory testing and delivery of one qualifying prototype one-quadrant switch-mode power converter rated 6.5 kA, 18 V, using sub-converters rated 3.25 kA, 18 V. Following a market survey (MS-2866/SL/LHC) carried out among 81 firms in seventeen Member States, a call for tenders (IT-2919/SL/LHC) was sent on 11 June 2001 to nine firms and two consortia, each consisting of two firms, in eight Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received six tenders from five firms and one consortium in six Member States. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of contracts for the design, documentation, manufacture, factory testing and delivery of one qualifying prototype one-quadrant switch-mode power converter rated 6.5 kA, 18 V with the following two firms: 1) JEMA (ES) for a total amount of 172 220 euros (261 336 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange that has been used is that stipulated in the tender. 2) TRANSTECHNIK (DE) for a total amount of 258 103 euros (392 910 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange that has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firms have indicated the following distribution by country of the contract values covered by this adjudication proposal: JEMA: ES - 36%; IT - 26%; DE - 15%; NL - 15%; SE - 4%; CH - 4%. TRANSTECHNIK: DE - 85%; CZ - 15%.
