Proposal for the award of a contract for the supply of high-performance magnetic tape drives and cartridges for experimental data

This document concerns the award of a contract for the supply, installation and maintenance of high-performance magnetic tape drives and associated cartridges. Phase 1 of the LHC Computing Grid project, as described in CERN/FC/2379/Rev., was approved by the CERN Council (CERN/FC/4487) in 2001 and CERN is now starting the procurement process for the equipment it needs for the storage of related data on removable cartridges. A call for tenders (IT-3117/IT) was sent on 14 December 2001 to three firms in one Member State. By the closing date, CERN had received two tenders. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of a contract with STORAGETEK (CH), the lowest bidder, for the supply of high-performance magnetic tape drives and cartridges for experimental data for a total amount of 2 031 247 Swiss francs, not subject to revision, with an option for additional drives to provide 700 Megabytes/sec capacity, for a total amount of 175 316 Swiss francs, not subject to revision, bringing the total amount to 2 206 563 Swiss francs. The firm has indicated the following distribution by country of the contract value covered by this adjudication proposal: US - 99%; CH - 1%.
