Proposal for the Award of a Contract for the Supply and Installation of the Underground Cooling Plant for the ATLAS Detector

This document concerns the award of a contract for the supply and installation of the underground cooling plant for the ATLAS detector. Following a market survey carried out among 86 firms in fifteen Member States, a call for tenders (IT-2632/ST/LHC) was sent on 19 February 2002 to eight firms and eight consortia in nine Member States. By the closing date, CERN had received five tenders from three firms and two consortia in five Member States. The Finance Committee is invited to agree to the negotiation of a contract with INIZIATIVE INDUSTRIALI (IT), the lowest bidder, for the supply and installation of the underground cooling plant for the ATLAS detector for a total amount of 1 044 669 euros (1 527 965 Swiss francs), not subject to revision, with an option for additional back-up pumps for a total amount of 33 648 euros (49 214 Swiss francs), not subject to revision, bringing the total amount to 1 078 317 euros (1 577 179 Swiss francs), not subject to revision. The rate of exchange which has been used is that stipulated in the tender. The firm has indicated the following distribution by country of the contract value covered by this adjudication proposal: IT - 88%; SE-11%; FR-1%.
