Search for heavy charged particles with the DELPHI detector at LEP2

A search for heavy long-lived charged particles with the DELPHI detector at LEP at yfs=l30- 136, 161 and 172 GeV is reported. The emphasis will be put on the search for particles crossing the detector without decaying. A specific analysis looking for particles with intermediate lifetimes decaying in...

description A search for heavy long-lived charged particles with the DELPHI detector at LEP at yfs=l30- 136, 161 and 172 GeV is reported. The emphasis will be put on the search for particles crossing the detector without decaying. A specific analysis looking for particles with intermediate lifetimes decaying inside the DELPHI tracking devices is also presented. No signal was found and 95 % confidence level limits on the production cross sections were derived and range from 0.4 to about 2.3 pb. The results can be interpreted within the framework of some supersymmetry scenarios. Mass limits for these cases are also given. Results on the search for excited leptons are also presented.
