The Performance of the ATLAS Trigger

This paper describes the expected performance of the ATLAS trigger system, which has to reduce the interaction rate in $pp$ collisions at $sqrt{s} = 14$~TeV of $10^9$~Hz (at design luminosity) to about 100~Hz going to mass storage.
