Sumario: | This article presents an overview of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment. This detector will be installed in the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) in 2005. This paper describes the characteristics of this homogeneous calorimeter made with PbWO/sub 4/ scintillating crystals read out with avalanche photodiodes (barrel) and vacuum phototriodes (endcaps). This calorimeter will play an important role in Higgs physics. (5 refs). |
