DIRC, the identification detector for the $Ba\overline{B}ar$ experiment

A brief description of a new type of Cerenkov detector, the DIRC, is presented together with beam test results obtained at the PS/CERN accelerator. These results show the feasibility of the project and confirms the expected performance of the detector, capable of identifying pi /K up to 3.0 GeV/c. (5 refs).
