A study of charge properties for different types of bakelite RPC

We investigated charge properties for narrow gap, wide gap and multigap resistive plate chambers (RPCs) using light and heavy gas mixtures to estimate the width of streamer-free HV plateau in efficiency. It was found that wide gap and multigap chambers give a moderate increase for the plateau width...

description We investigated charge properties for narrow gap, wide gap and multigap resistive plate chambers (RPCs) using light and heavy gas mixtures to estimate the width of streamer-free HV plateau in efficiency. It was found that wide gap and multigap chambers give a moderate increase for the plateau width in avalanche mode. It seems that the CMS-type RPC shows the best result. Some properties of RPC operation in the avalanche mode are also presented. (6 refs).
