Sumario:The purely leptonic decay D<sub>s</sub> &rarr; &mu; &nu; is studied in a sample of four million hadronic Z decays collected in 1991- 1995 with the ALEPH detector at LEP. A linear discriminant analysis and a kinematic fit to the missing neutrino four-momentum are used to measure the branching fraction &beta; (D<sub>s</sub> &rarr; &mu; &nu; ) = (0.65 &plusmn; 0.085 [stat] &plusmn; 0.134 [sys] &plusmn; 0.157 [bf])%, where the last uncertainty is from the branching fraction &beta; (D<sub>s</sub> &rarr; &mu; &nu; ). Within the Standard Model, this result corresponds to <italic><super>f</super></italic>D<sub> s</sub> = (285 &plusmn; 19 [stat] &plusmn; 29 [sys] &plusmn; 41 [bf)] MeV. --- 26 --- AN
