description | A Z factory in the VLLC injector with polarized beams is presented. Its circumference is about two Tevatron circumferences. Wigglers make the bunches longer at injection, and reduce the risk of collective instabilities and the polarization time at collision energy. However, they are powerful sources of synchrotron radiation, and associated damage. The vertical amplitude function beta_y^* at the interaction point is assumed to be 40 mm. At this value, reaching a peak luminosity 10^33cm^-2s^-1 implies about 50 MW of RF power for the two beams. A lower value of beta_y^* could be exploited by using any intermediate method between two extremes: (i) At constant L and RF power, the circumference and the polarization time could be reduced. (ii) At constant circumference, RF power, and polarization time, L could be increased. Apertures and separation schemes have only been designed at the collision energy. In the discussion of polarization time, peak polarization and figure of merit, all depolarizing mechanisms, due to the momentum spread in the beam and orbit errors, are ignored. |
