Supergravity supertubes
We find the asymptotic supergravity solution sourced by a supertube: a 1/4-supersymmetric D0-charged IIA superstring that has been blown up to a cylindrical D2-brane by angular momentum. Sumario: | We find the asymptotic supergravity solution sourced by a supertube: a 1/4-supersymmetric D0-charged IIA superstring that has been blown up to a cylindrical D2-brane by angular momentum. It has no net D2-brane charge but does have a D2-brane dipole moment. It also has closed timelike curves in the dipole region, which leads to a ghost-induced instability of D2-supertube probes. We comment on similarities to the enhancon and the heterotic dyonic instanton. |
