Review of the tau neutrino mass

The general techniques used in direct measurements of the tau neutrino mass, m/sub nu tau /, are introduced. This is followed by a review of the most recent experimental limits from the Upsilon (4s) and LEP with a focus on the most recent measurement, that from CLEO using a new four-pion decay mode. A new `world average' limit obtained by combining the likelihood functions of the CLEO, ALEPH and OPAL results is presented. The paper concludes with projections for potential results on this topic from the recently commissioned B- factory experiments, BABAR and BELLE. (19 refs).
