Tau leptons as the new signal for supersymmetry

For a large class of supersymmetry breaking theories, tau leptons may be the only observable signal for SUSY at the present and forthcoming colliders. At LEP-2, the dominant signals are events having four tau leptons and large missing energy. At the upgraded Tevatron, the signal is inclusive high p/...

description For a large class of supersymmetry breaking theories, tau leptons may be the only observable signal for SUSY at the present and forthcoming colliders. At LEP-2, the dominant signals are events having four tau leptons and large missing energy. At the upgraded Tevatron, the signal is inclusive high p/sub T/ 2 tau and 3 tau events accompanied by large missing transverse energy. The observation of these signals will require good tau detection efficiencies. In this talk, I review the recent works on the observability of the tau signals at the LEP-2 and the upgraded Tevatron.
