description | The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is one of the two general purpose detectors planned at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The main physics goals of CMS include the search for the Higgs boson, for signs beyond the standard model, accurate measurements of CP violation in the b-system and heavy ion physics. This paper focuses on two new studies: search methods for a light SM Higgs boson and ways to measure trilinear gauge couplings in the electroweak sector. Following these studies, detection of a light Higgs boson in the decay mode to bb will be rather difficult but possible, and sensitivities for finding anomalous WW gamma couplings reach levels where radiative corrections play a role.
