Sumario:A study of relative costs for the SPL (Superconducting Proton Linac) using the best system information available at the time is described in this report. The aim of the study was to determine the influence on SPL costs from the linac output energy and the beam pulse length. The costing model and the modular components for the linac were CERN specific, on the basis of cost savings to be realized from reusing LEP (Large Electron-Positron storage ring) components. A routine (SPL Cost Optimiser) was developed to investigate costs of SPL as a function of different parameters including pulse length, output energy, duty cycle and structure components.
