description In the framework of the CLIC studies, we report on the first commissioning period of the CTF3 Preliminary Phase. Extensive tests were carried out on the front-end and the linac in order to measure the beam properties (energy, emittance, Twiss parameters and bunch length). In the injection line, dispersion measurements were performed and showed a good agreement with the simulations. The beam was also successfully injected and accumulated in the ring, allowing preliminary measurements of the optics in two different operation modes. In this paper, we give a summary of the results which were obtained in 2001.
