description COMPASS is a new fixed target high rate experiment at CERN. To fulfill the experiment requirements, the Collaboration decided to build the off-line system using new technologies. The computing power needed for RAW data processing has been estimated to be in the order of 2000 SPECint95, and will be provided by a farm of about 200 CPUs. The reconstruction program is under development and is written using object-oriented techniques and C++ as the programming language. In the present model, all the experimental and reconstructed data will be stored in an object database management system. (20 refs).
