Sumario: | Seeing the time dependence and measuring the oscillation frequency, Delta m/sub s/, of B/sub s//sup 0/'-B/sub s//sup 0/ mixing will allow the CKM element V/sub td/ to be determined with four times the accuracy of the current determination, which derives from the measurement of Delta M/sub d/. The resulting change in accuracy could be decisive in demonstrating that the Wolfenstein parameter which describes CP violation, eta , is non-zero. In the longer term, a precise determination of V/sub td/, together with a measurement of sin 2 beta , will provide the most accurate determination of the Wolfenstein parameters rho and eta , and so complete the determination of the CKM matrix or point to fundamental inconsistencies in this description of quark mixing.
