A QCD Primer

This paper deals with the main applications of perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The paper also covers massless QCD and scale invariance, the renormalisation group and asymptotic freedom, more on the running coupling, application to hard processes involving R(e/sup +/e/sup -/) and related p...

description This paper deals with the main applications of perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The paper also covers massless QCD and scale invariance, the renormalisation group and asymptotic freedom, more on the running coupling, application to hard processes involving R(e/sup +/e/sup -/) and related processes, the final states in e/sup +/e/sup -/ annihilation, deep inelastic scattering, factorisation and the QCD improved parton model. The measurements of alpha /sub s/ from e/sup + /e/sup -/ colliders and deep inelastic scattering are discussed and the concluding part deals with the formalism of gauge theories. (16 refs).
