Sumario: | Since about 10 years, the Crystal Clear Collaboration at CERN works on systematic investigations of new scintillating crystals and their application in science and industry. A large amount of new type scintillators had been characterised and optimised in terms of emission spectra, light yield, production yield and radiation hardness. As a result, one of those crystals, PbWO4, was chosen to be the baseline solution for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter at CERN and is actually produced in industrial scale with a quantity of about 1000 crystals per month. Another baseline of actual research interests in Crystal Clear is the construction of a PET-scanning prototype made of small, high light yield crystals for future medical applications. As a result of the different research activities on scintillating crystals, a website is currently under construction, which provides access to a large crystal database. Beside general and methodological informations on scintillating crystals, the database will contain a large amount of data gained so far about investigated crystals, including light yield, emission spectra, radiation hardness and mechanical properties. The actual status of this website will be presented. |
