Sumario: | It has been suggested that a 1/R addition to the gravitational Lagrangian could be the source of the observed late-time cosmological acceleration. By itself this term is ruled out by constraints on scalar-tensor gravity, but the addition of extra contributions of the form R^p makes it possible to evade these constraints. We discuss the general conditions for such theories to be viable, and identify the least unnatural candidates. |
