description The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a proton-proton collider with a centre of mass energy of 14 TeV presently in construction at CERN. The four colliding experiments will require special vacuum chamber designs to allow the best physics performance. New technologies such as very thin beampipes to increase transparency, optimized rotatable flanges, wired supports with special layers to reduce dynamic effects, special heating jackets, double wall chambers and mass minimized annular ion pumps are being developed by CERN for this application.
