Sumario: | The most widely-known formulation of the quantum eraser is reviewed. In this formulation, as portrayed by its developers, the quantum eraser effect exhibits particle and wave properties of a physical existent within co-existing complementary structures. The presence of wave and particle properties is made possible by separating a measurement into distinct processes, each of which contributes to the final outcome of the measurement. One piece is the event that is the focus of the measurement. The other piece is making information on this event available to the environment. The quantum eraser effect indicates that it is the information available in an experimental setup that frames the physical results obtained. Each of these different complementary structures is essentially associated with different experiments that share certain events. |
